Well, here I am again. I feel like you are a kindred soul.
I wish I could sew well. but I get to the place that I just can't finish properly and my mother who would finish it for me if I asked, has passed on to the big sewing machine (pun intended) and scissors in the sky. I have maY of things to finish (some don't even fit any longer) but am just not good at it. I think I said that already. I love mono-printing and painting fabric but just can't get beyond that except to make collages and there is where I love to layer, and stitch, and melt, and embellish. I truly desire to make clothes...if I just knew the tricks. I know, I know, make yourself take a few "trick" lessons but I have about as much time as I have to spend taking a quick break from writing lesson plans or working in my studio...the dining room table, living room floor and a basement that my son, the artist has taken over. Another frustration of mine. ;Oh why can I not win the lottery? I need a studio.
Someone asked me if I wanted to twitter last week and my response was, "My God you have time to twitter"?
An Egret? how interesting. Around here they eat my Koi in the backyard pond. Though, maybe I could entice one with hotdogs? How funny! A big bird that likes hotdogs.
Clawed speaks other words like "now" in the morning and in the kitchen, "eat" and then "out" and he said "ma-ma' a couple of times but that was a long time ago. he's about 13 years now and shadows our female mainecoon who is 17. There was a beautiful stray on our deck this afternoon but Clawed chased him away. I also would have a zillion cats if I could but yuck the litter box is right.
Well, I wish you were closer, I would take one of your workshops. I could stand some fun creativity for just me. Thanks for the conversation Have a good week.

I probably shouldn't keep blabbing since we both have work to do but Thank you for your comments on my Fiber pieces ( Green one - a base of heavy dyed and painted Lutradur + a few other things). I teach fabric printing (among other fiber methods) in Wichita, Kansas but it doesn't look anything as fabulous as your pieces.
No, I haven't done any backdrops for things like Music Theatre but have had some students that were professional costume makers for the stage. I also learned a few things from them. I have however, done a lot of large installations for various Liturgical Churches for their spaces and for their conventions. I have since dropped out of that environment due to the in fighting that goes on. I'm too old for people that have 1000 different idea and they want to do all of them and not listen to anything you might have to suggest.
Wow, I'm ranting. Time to go back to the piece I'm working on for an up-coming show in two weeks.
Connie
p.s. The Cat's name is Jean Clawed Kitty - we found him in the deep snow. He is my husbands buddy that says "hawoo ?, Hawoo? ( sounds like - hello) when he can't find you.

When do we have to grow up Jan? No one will ever have to ask us what we are going to do when we retire. I'm already retired and still working and teaching. It's almost becoming more fast paced as I age. As long as I can still use my hands and move around (working on the floor because it's the next available space has become difficult when the legs and knees lock up LOL) I will still be spinning in my little design cocoon. Nice to have taken a great view of your wonderful work.

Hi Jan, I belong to WWAO (World Wide Artists Online) and one member is a painter. She is interesting in submitting her designs for consideration as a fabric designer. Would you have any information that would head her in the right direction? Thanks, Diana

American Folk Art Doll Pattern

This doll pattern and other folk patterns can be purchased at Cloth Doll Supply.  Their description:

HISTORICAL FOLK DOLL #11
The New York Doll

This 16" doll has made herself quite famous by being chosen to be on the cover of a well-known book of American Folk Dolls, by Wendy Lavitt. She is such a good doll for a cover as she has just about all the best details of this type of doll. Separate fingers, a wonderful and exaggerated face and hair all carefully embroidered, including her remarkable feather-stitched eyebrows, and a costume of just-right simplicity and detail. She has with her the same small cat the doll in the photo has. Silkscreened for embroidery and new antiquing methods included.

HOW TO MAKE LENAPE STYLE MOCCASINS

The same pattern is used for both feet so you only have to make one pattern. Once you make the pattern you're all set, and you can save it for making more moccasins in the future.
