Paula, These Mowani pieces are stunning. We spent this last weekend there ... and at Kipwe, where Andre Louw has created a second Mowani Lodge, just as beautiful, and probably unsurpassed in Namibia. We saw one lone elephant, and just missed a herd…

Paula I am absolutely amazed by these pieces .... and I especially of course love the "Oshiwa" touch in the lower right area. The embellished copper look is quite something. Josef is carving steadily and doing some beautiful work, and Diana Duncan o…

This piece was very much fun to make! In addition to the description above, I wanted to mention that the piece of painted Model Magic in the lower right corner was shaped by pressing it with one of my Oshiwa blocks. Model Magic is like clay, but you…

I'm so confused, seems as I sent a comment to myself. This was meant for you:
Sorry, I was interrupted: I wanted to ask if you read my article published on 13 August at www.fiberfocus.blogspot. com? I don't sew anything myself, just trying to boost the selling for some people in developing countries. Would like to join the fair trade group, but time is the limit. And now I'm confused, not knowing if I'm sending a commen tto you or myself! Too tired.

Hi Paula, nice to hear from you. I have never been to other parts of Africa myself, but I can imagine that some things are in common with East Africa and some are very different. I hope to be able to me more active at Fiber Focus later on, maybe join the fair trade group. Will also have a look at the site you suggested. Right now I'm writing an article about the bark cloth produced in Uganda. Do they have this material where you have been?
Regards, Karin

Well, I think for the first article it would be interesting to just hear your story. You've been to several different countries, (very different from each other!), so maybe something on an outsider looking in and then how you grew to work with the blocks and develop your skills as an artist. Then, if you wanted to write more about specific groups, people, or work, you are very welcome. I am always looking for contributors and want the blog to reflect a variety of perspectives and voices, not just my thoughts. And, I like to help members here get as much exposure as possible, too. I'm sure that an article will drive readers to your new blog.

So, when you are ready, I will need the article and photos attached as jpegs in an email (rayela@comcast.net). Include any links that you want added, a photo of you and a short bio. You can look at the blog to see what others have done. There are several members from here who have contributed recently, but speak in your own voice. I look forward to your story!

Oooo.... I love what you are doing with the stamps! I took a look at your blog and signed up to follow it and added you on to my blog roll at my blog: http://fiberfocus.blogspot.com/

If you would like to write an article for my blog, I would love it! I am always looking for ways we can meet different cultures through our mutual interests and how our relationships through art can help promote cultural understanding and hopefully, peace. I think you must have some very interesting insights having served as a diplomat, so if you would like to share them, please let me know and I will tell you what I need.

There is a blogging group here that you can join and when you get stuck, we can help you. I have a blogging resource rss'd there that is very helpful.

Look forward to seeing more of your photos! Rachel

Free Vintage Paper Doll Pattern

Karen's Whimsey has this free Paper Doll pattern on her website.  Clothing for the doll also available.  Images are in the public domain.

American Folk Art Doll Pattern

This doll pattern and other folk patterns can be purchased at Cloth Doll Supply.  Their description:

HISTORICAL FOLK DOLL #11
The New York Doll

This 16" doll has made herself quite famous by being chosen to be on the cover of a well-known book of American Folk Dolls, by Wendy Lavitt. She is such a good doll for a cover as she has just about all the best details of this type of doll. Separate fingers, a wonderful and exaggerated face and hair all carefully embroidered, including her remarkable feather-stitched eyebrows, and a costume of just-right simplicity and detail. She has with her the same small cat the doll in the photo has. Silkscreened for embroidery and new antiquing methods included.
Pattern (mini-kit) #PGW725 - $42.00

The same pattern is used for both feet so you only have to make one pattern. Once you make the pattern you're all set, and you can save it for making more moccasins in the future.
