Rachel's Challenge

I am attempting to complete Rachel's challenge. I had a hard time choosing between this one or Peggy's Kimono picture, or her Beadch Bark picture. I like them because they are colorful but there is so much more to appreciate in the texture created by the weaving and beading. I kept going back to them again… Continue

Rebecca

Am I just cranky?

Ok, so this has happened to me more than once... someone hires me to quilt for them, enters the quilt in a show and wins a category ribbon. This same person comes to me so excited to show me the ribbon, but she never put my name on the entry form nor acknowledged that I had even so much as touched the quilt. AND! what really chaps my hide is that she won the ribbon for the quilting! The judge said (and the quilter told me this) that the quilting made this quilt sing to her. How does one handle t… Continue

Thank you, Rebecca! Your quilts have come alive with your quilting! I can tell that you love this form of art. Keep up your good work and I am looking forward to more of your art. Do you quilt for others? Thanks so much for complimenting my mosaics. Also thanks for the compliments of my Obama quilt being in The Historical Society of Wsahington DC! Yes, I am very passionate about my mosaics and I am so pleased that it shows. I really appreciate your wonderful compliments.

Hi Rebecca, I love your quilting! I recognize a couple of the pieces, but your quilting makes it stand above all of the rest. My hat's off to you.

In my wildest dreams, I quilt like that! I wake and find out that I was sleeping. Smiles, Diana

Thanks so much, Rebecca...I find it very relaxing to do hand work. I've been enjoying working with wool this past year, taking a little diversion from rug hooking. I have so much wool fabric, I decided to do some quilt like pieces....and I can't seem to stop! I keep getting flooded with ideas...I'm sure you know what I mean.

Ohhh Rebecca!! Could I be...stewpeeeeeeder??!! He's NOT a lion, he's a...TIGER, isn't he!! Let's blame it on the weather!! We've been buried in deep snow since early Dec. and I think I misplaced my...mind (!!) outside when I was fighting to shovel the damn driveway for the 88,000th time!! Hugs, Charlotte

Hi again, Rebecca - Noooooooow I get it!! Nooooooow I understand why YOUR stitiching is to...DIE FOR!!!! ie. the close ups of your gooooooooorgeous lion!!!! You've quilted for others!! WOW!! I'm thinking I should not, not, not say this, but it's the..quilting part of quilting that I...HATE!! I usu. turn to my trusty, rusty old Singer to do it for me! It's one of those old Featherweights from the late '40's and early '50's - such a graaaaaaaand little wonder!! Me, I like - No, wait! I...l-o-o-o-o-v-e!!!! - the piecing part of quilting!!!! Once that's done, however, I loooooooong to pass the thing on to someone else to quilt it!! As a result, I have a staaaaack of quilt tops that will probably...never be finished!! Oi-vey!! I know quilters whose very favourite thing to do is to...sit and stitch. They find it...well, alllllll sorts of loooooovely things - relaxing, spiritually nourishing, etc.,etc., and, esp. a time to let their minds wander where they will. I cannot tell you how I e-n-v-y folks like this - folks like...YOU!! DO find/make more time for your own art - it - YOUR art - is soooooooooo woooooooooonderful!!!! - even if it means...er...giving up sleep!! Hugs, Charlotte

Free Vintage Paper Doll Pattern

Karen's Whimsey has this free Paper Doll pattern on her website.  Clothing for the doll also available.  Images are in the public domain.

American Folk Art Doll Pattern

This doll pattern and other folk patterns can be purchased at Cloth Doll Supply.  Their description:

HISTORICAL FOLK DOLL #11
The New York Doll

This 16" doll has made herself quite famous by being chosen to be on the cover of a well-known book of American Folk Dolls, by Wendy Lavitt. She is such a good doll for a cover as she has just about all the best details of this type of doll. Separate fingers, a wonderful and exaggerated face and hair all carefully embroidered, including her remarkable feather-stitched eyebrows, and a costume of just-right simplicity and detail. She has with her the same small cat the doll in the photo has. Silkscreened for embroidery and new antiquing methods included.
Pattern (mini-kit) #PGW725 - $42.00

HOW TO MAKE LENAPE STYLE MOCCASINS

The same pattern is used for both feet so you only have to make one pattern. Once you make the pattern you're all set, and you can save it for making more moccasins in the future.
