My Entry to Poetry in Stitches

If you are interested in seeing my Doormat piece, it has a new web presence at:
http://www.nationalneedleworkarchive.org.uk/html/poetry_in_stitches.html
together with dates and venues for exhibitions it will be appearing at next year. I'm dead chuffed! It's worked in a combination of techniques: needlefelting on an Embellisher Machine, Canvaswork, Free Hand Embroidery, Rug Hooking and Rug Progging, and fabric painting.

Iam making a lovely moss green jumper for myself but the sleevs lok too narrow. It will be a fag to undo as my knitting is all little moss stitsh baskets. I knit while I watch Dr House in the evenings! Or instead of painting velvet for a client inLondon who gives me not much clue as to WHAT she likes! I suggested hse look at Sonia Delaunay and Klimt after about 5 weeks of pressing her she has finally opted for Delaunay style without telling me if it's the circles squares or triangles that she prefers. As my husband says...Free rein to do as I please....But for another person about to spend over £100 on my work I'd rather have some guide... The other thing I am back into is creative writing, even if it's biographical mostly. Oh and I can supply some unspun Angora goat combed withShetland: Beautifully soft in muted natural grey/beige if anyone is interested!

Just back from a very happy week in Essaouira, Morocco, with the family. Brought back a tummy big, unfortunately, but it was good to have a break and it is a lovely town 3 hours drive from Marrakesh. Enjoyed some sunshine and the Morrocans appreciated the rain we brought with us as there's not been so much for over 30 years. Not brilliant for textiles but have brought home more inspirations... Now, to get weller.

Doormat won a prize! It's been given the award for Contemporary Interpretation by the National Needlework Archive's Poetry in Stitches 2 judging panel. I am well chuffed.

No, that's a great photo! I love it! Great expression. Glad to see you're bonding with Catherine. She's one of my favorite cyber friends!

I made the game official in the forum... We'll get those aliens yet!

PS - Thanks for the hipknits link on your site. Yak yarn sounds fun. I'm trying to get goat hair here that's suitable for knitting, but the kilim yarns are not well spun enough. All the good knitting yarn gets exported...

Hi Sue - nice to meet you!

You are welcome here anytime - Bristol and Selcuk are not so far from each other. And you speak some Greek! Wish I did - just returned from a day trip to the island of Samos for my visa renewal. I'm still feeling the motion of a rather wavy sea...

Your work is really good - I'd love to read a blog posting about your techniques if you don't mind sharing with us. I'm always looking for interesting natural dyed cottons and silks to make shirts (I have lots of Central Asian embroidery scraps I embellish them with) here too, so your rusting (especially velvet!) appeals to me. Only problem is that my clothing customers do not spend $$ like carpet customers do! But if it's special enough, they just might.

Much better! Great photo, too! (although I kind of feel some daggers coming my way with that piercing look!). I just thought up a game, even though I don't normally like games online... "Tag an alien" I got you to change your photo, now you go find an alien (one of the grey people) and see if you can get them to change over. Then, they are tagged. See if you can do it!

So, if my wish is your command (oh, this can be very dangerous!), do you like to write? How about an article on that technique for the blog? Do you have photos of more work like that? Must take forever to do! Well, know that you are welcome to write about it...

Psst! You're tagged!

I looked at your doormat piece. What is that? Some kind of punch work? So much texture!

Why don't you also give us something better to look at instead of the grey profile? I have a feeling you can come up with something fun! Looks like a bunch of aliens are making all these beautiful things... heh, heh.

American Folk Art Doll Pattern

This doll pattern and other folk patterns can be purchased at Cloth Doll Supply.  Their description:

HISTORICAL FOLK DOLL #11
The New York Doll

This 16" doll has made herself quite famous by being chosen to be on the cover of a well-known book of American Folk Dolls, by Wendy Lavitt. She is such a good doll for a cover as she has just about all the best details of this type of doll. Separate fingers, a wonderful and exaggerated face and hair all carefully embroidered, including her remarkable feather-stitched eyebrows, and a costume of just-right simplicity and detail. She has with her the same small cat the doll in the photo has. Silkscreened for embroidery and new antiquing methods included.
Pattern (mini-kit) #PGW725 - $42.00
