I love the cemetery. It is a great place to commune with the dead, my crayon, and my silk. It's like going to a mellow party where I get to meet people one-on-one and spend as much time with them as I like.

There are many Ohio Infantrymen at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. This one was different from the others. His grave was not in the Civil War area, but set apart with other civilian graves. Another peculiarity, his marker had one additional word: musician. This made me smile. And I imagined he was smiling back at me.

Don't worry, though. I think he likes his restful place at Greenlawn under the trees. He probably keeps the others content, too, by playing music for them. I don't know which instrument, but I'm guessing some type of horn.

Available from my Etsy shop.

I used oil crayons that are permanent on fabric when heat set.
